Covenant University (CU) hosted a team from Lancaster University today, Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the Vice Chancellor’s conference room, in Canaan Land, Ota.
The team was made up of the International Officer of the University, Mr. Jamie Vegad, and the institution’s representative in Ghana, Mr. Nom Habu. Their mission was to have a formal deliberation on the modalities for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Covenant University. The MoU, as discussed, would cover areas like split doctorate degree programmes, sharing of library resources, exchange of faculty, staff and students, research partnerships, etc.
In his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Korede Ayo, appreciated the team for the visit, and expressed the desire to see a more vibrant and functional Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.
According to the Vice Chancellor, “The whole essence of an MoU is that it is functional and rewarding to both parties. Therefore, developing the right incentives, is key to a successful drive of the partnership. Collaborations should not be a one-way street.”
During his introductory remarks, the Registrar of Covenant University, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, welcomed the team to Covenant University; drawing their attention to the soothing ambience of the University, which makes a perfect study environment. He also hoped that the meeting would culminate in a better relationship and collaboration between the two universities.
In his remarks, Mr. Jamie Vegad stated, “I strongly hope that this would be an opportunity which would proceed to the next level. The MoU is a meaningful document and should be a working document and I hope this would be a start to a good relationship.”
Mr. Vegad expressed the interest of Lancaster University to engage with students from across the globe on the platforms of teaching and research, and Summer School. He said students from Covenant University currently running Masters’ programmes in Lancaster University were doing brilliantly well and the University would like to have more of CU students on the programme with up to £3000 discount on school fees.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Covenant University’s Committee on MoUs and Collaborations, Dr. Olawande Daramola, stated, “Our desire is to have an active collaboration with the Lancaster University. I believe, based on the constitution of the faculties in this meeting, we can see how to engage and move the MoU forward.”
At the end of the meeting, there was a discussion between the team and the designated CU faculty members to fine-tune the deliberations on areas of collaboration at the level of Colleges and Departments as well as possible incentives. The team was taken on a tour of some of CU’s facilities immediately thereafter.
