There is Need to Regulate Sustainability Reporting in Nigeria – Report

Researchers from Covenant and Mountain Top Universities have recommended the regulation of sustainability reporting in Nigeria, so as to enforce compliance on corporate entities. This, according to their findings, would bring about more transparency and accountability which would enhance development in the nation.

The research work titled, “Assessment of Sustainability Reporting in Nigerian Industrial Goods Sector,” examined the extent of sustainability reporting practice by a cement manufacturing company, Lafarge Africa Plc and recommended that the company should improve the practice in order to become more transparent and accountable to its stakeholders.

“There have been testimonies of sustainability reporting contributing to accountability and transparency to wider group of stakeholders, hence, it should become regulatory rather than voluntary in order to make corporate entities operating in the country more committed to the protection of environmental virtues and society at large,” the report concluded.
