The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor AAA. Atayero, has urged the people of Ajenifuja in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State to pay attention to personal hygiene in order to live a life devoid of sickness and frequent visit to hospitals.

Professor Atayero spoke through his deputy, Professor Shalom Chinedu at a Free Medical Services programme organised by the University’s Community Development Impact Initiative Committee (CUCDIIC), to commemorate the World Health Day on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Isokanlawa Community Secondary School, Ajenifuja, Ota.

This year’s World Health Day was themed, “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone Everywhere,”

The Vice-Chancellor observed that lack of personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness contributes greatly to ill-health, often culminating in high mortality rates among the people, particularly children. “What kills many people are little things unattended to which accumulated and grow beyond manageable conditions,” he said, as he urged them to pay attention to their health.

He also promised the indigenes that the University would assist them in some areas of need as requested by the Central Chairman, Isokanlawa Community Development Association, Mr. Wale Komolafe.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, CUCDIIC, Dr. Emmanuel Amoo noted that the programme was part of the numerous community development services usually carried out by the University and geared toward imparting positively on the lives of the people, especially in its host community, Ota and its environs.

“The popular expression that ‘Health is Wealth’ is valid forever. Without good health, every other thing is of no value. We have come today, not only to encourage individuals and this community as a whole to live in great health, but we have come to demonstrate and offer assistance to several people in terms of access to great health,” he explained.

A total of 303 adults and children benefited from the programme which featured a free health awareness talk, vaccination, drug distribution, blood pressure measurement, blood sugar screening, dietary counseling, eye checks, as well as distribution of free eye glasses.

Also present at the event were the representative of the Registrar, Head Human Resource Unit, Pastor Olusegun Johnson; Winners Satellite Fellowship Zonal Coordinator, Pastor Agboola; his Assistant, Pastor Lawrence Popoola; Joint Chairman, Ijagbo/Igberen ACDC, Mr. Fatai Ayinde; Secretary, Isokanlawa Joint CDA, Mr. Raphael Adewuyi; Staff of the University Medical Centre, as well as members of the CUCDIIC.
